From depleted pasture
to living soil.
When we first walked these 120 acres in the Sierra Nevada, the soil was compacted, the water table low, and the native oak canopy reduced to scattered skeletons.
We did not bulldoze and build. We listened. Holistic planned grazing, keyline water design, and patience — five years of it so far — have brought back the mycorrhizal networks, the insects, the birds, and the wildflowers that tell you the land is remembering how to breathe.
Every animal here
has a second chapter.
Horses retired from city carriage work. Donkeys left behind after village populations shrank. Goats rescued from slaughterhouse queues. They arrive wary, rib-showing, uncertain of a gentle hand.
Within months, the same animals are rolling in dust, forming unlikely herds, and teaching guests that trust is rebuilt in small, daily acts of patience. They are not props. They are the reason the grass grows differently here.
